Blood and bibliophilia
Two random items courtesy of the dear old Beeb...

1) A slideshow about some Anglo-Saxon manuscripts recently made available online by Corpus Christi College in Cambridge. My fingers were just itching all the way through.... so beautiful.

2) An odd little feature on the way blood types are used almost like astrological signs in Japanese dating but also for subtle and bizarre discrimination. Turns out I am the worst of them all - Type B - a "flamboyant free-thinker, but selfish".

And I always liked having a little card on me that said "B positive"... :D

Oh, those manuscripts are fascinating. I'm clearly on the wrong side of The Pond. *sigh*

My little card has the same message on it, bb! ;)

I looked up stuff about blood types a while back when someone said I'd need to be careful if I got pregnant because my other half is A-. (Turns out they were completely wrong - issues are more likely if I'm - and baby is +)

Anyway - random fact I discovered - while the percentage of a population that has a specific blood type is fairly uniform across the world, not so for B+ - 8% to 10% of people are B+ in Western countries (8% of the UK population) but it's a whopping 30% of the Indian population!

Yep, I believe it. Both parents, my brother and me are all B+, and so is R. I suppose there's a small chance my kid might be O (because of the genotype vs phenotype stuff).

And yeah, the Rh(-) stuff is relevant when the mother is Rh(-) but the father and fetus are both Rh(+). So you're all set, lol.

Is it bad that I don't know what blood type I am?

Not that I have much blood anyway... *curses anemia*

Yes, it's bad. Always a good piece of information to have in an emergency, like when the zombies attack!

(Anemia has nothing to do with the volume of blood...it just means you have fewer red blood cells and a correspondingly reduced amount of hemoglobin. But yes, curse it, lol!)

lol, I don't even know about my own disease. That's comforting.

Yes, because it means you've never donated any.

*curses anemia*

Ah, never mind then... ;) Go eat some broccoli.

I love broccoli!

And so now I'm looking at my A- in a whole new light. Thank you. Thank you so much for that! even if it is accurate

Aww - the hubby is A- too and I still love him! and it's accurate for him as well

OMG that blood thing has got to be the weirdest. It's even weirder than all that Year of the 'animal' stuff at Chinese restaurants. At least I get to be "Decisive and confident".

I used to know my blood type... but heck if I remember. :)
