To my friends in the USA...  
Happy Independence Day!
...for, as long as but a hundred of us remain alive, never will we on any conditions be brought under English rule. It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom – for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.
Oh no, wait... wrong one... sorry... hang on... ;)
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.
 I don't care who you are or what your political beliefs are - that is a beautiful statement and one we all should try to bear in mind.

TJ had his faults but his writing certainly wasn't one of them.

I went to Monticello twice and the Jefferson memorial a couple of times as well. Beautiful places and a fascinating man.

I'm a TJ fan myself. I try to view any of his faults with a historical perspective.

Thanks for the well wishes. We're just sitting around killing time until we get to go watch people blow things up. It's an American tradition.
