Utterly Random Weekend Roundup
1) The cold is back with a vengeance. I am very tired of being tired and getting out of breath if I think too hard. Will be biting the bullet and actually seeking medical attention if it's still here by Tuesday. After all - what's the point in free health care if you don't use the stuff?!

2) Last night's Dr Who - I liked it! It was fun. Still not entirely convinced by Matt Smith but he may grow on me. Love Karen Gillan. it made me laugh which was good. I always liked the cheekiness of David Tennant the most - not that it wasn't fantastic when Ten was all dark and menacing but it got a bit up itself towards the end of Ten's tenure...

3) I'm sitting reading something in the study the other night and Allan (that's the hubby remember, not the outlaw) comes through and says - and I quote - "Your man's doing some advert for the Open University - want me to rewind it?"

I replied (though possibly not quite quickly enough) "I thought you were my man?" and he just rolled his eyes...

Sure enough, it was indeed Gordon on the OU ad. There's that Coco Rocks one he does on just now as well and of course the voice over for Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares USA so at least I can occasionally get to hear him, if not see him.

I'm now trying to think of two more diverse products than kids breakfast cereal and an institute of higher learning...

4) Worst. Birthday. Ever. Woke up Monday morning and it had snowed again and I had to go to the funeral of the very lovely 26 year old man who sat next to me at work. Middle part of day was alright - had a nice, if subdued, lunch with hubby and then went shopping and when we got home he cooked me a delicious Tagliatelle Carbonara - which grew cold in front of the TV as we heard a dripping sound from upstairs and spent the rest of the evening trying to find and stop the leak in our roof in a 40mph blizzard... The builders will be here to inspect it in 2 weeks time. inspect mind - not fix - that'll be later...

I have decided that if the Queen can have two birthdays then so can I - I call do-over.

We ended up talking to our home insurance companyy, the company who built our house 5 years ago and NHBC - a govt. body that regulates building standards - all of whom said "No, you can't do any work to stop the leak until our chap has had a look at it - in two weeks time."

"But our ceiling may have fallen in by then!"

"Oh we'll fix that"

"But if you let us put a tarp up now it won't need fixed so much"

"But if you do any unauthorised work now it will invalidate your claim."

Thankfully so far the wind's been in the right direction and the leak has stopped but it wont take much for it to come back - and if it does we shall sit and listen to it because we're not allowed to stop it getting worse... So our claim could be for thousands instead of hundreds. - which to me makes no sense at all but as long as they're not my thousands..

These people are all wasting their gum...on an epic scale.

5) Both my laptop and my home PC are back from the dead! Yay! I put a new power supply in the home PC and a nice man from Dell came to the office and swapped the motherboard on my laptop (since technically it is in fact the work's laptop) and they're both as good as new - and backed up to the nines! :) It's also meant I've been able to get at my photos from the trip away with robinfanatic - like this gem from an info board at Nottingham Castle...
I'll be sharing that over on TLJR shortly ;)

6) It's all been very quiet in the RH fandom recently... hopefully just a seasonal lull.

I'm certainly not complaining since I've been getting some lovely comments on my new fic which I suspect may be because A) there's not much else being posted just now and B) it's got Guy in it. Chapter 7 up tomorrow - let's see who's still with me...

7) I love Hot Cross Buns. Absolutely love 'em... I'm a sucker for anything cinnamon-y or nutmeg-y...

8) Spotted Russell Tovey playing a policeman in a Miss Marple the other day - yummy. I do love me a man in uniform.

9) My football team continue their long and inglorious tradition of suckage in the Scottish Cup - we went out this year to a team in the league below us! 108 years and counting...

10) The RH forum at BBC America is still up! I just kind of assumed it would be down by now. What with here, the RH board on Yuku and there I'm quite glad the fandom's quiet!

11) Holiday Monday tomorrow - one of the few I actually get. Hope the weather is awful so I don't feel so bad about staying in and doing laundry!

Yay, Chapter 7! :)

The birthday do-over sounds good. :)

(that's the hubby remember, not the outlaw) - Handy that you did include that, or I would have been wondering...

Chapter 7, yay. Also, not reading because of reason A or B. Well, A is true, there isn't much at the moment, but still loving it regardless.

Haha, 'he often relied on Little John to get him out of trouble'. I've been reading some old Robin Hood tales recently, and the closer relationship between the two of them (with Little John his right hand man/closest friend/etc etc) is so much fun. And I really liked the closeness between John and Marian in one, it was like an expansion of that one scene in 2x08.

Don't you just hate government bodies who waste your hard earned tax payer dollars? But I hope the roof thingy holds on till the chap gets a look at it. So frustrating!

If anyone deserves a do-over, it's you. Go for it.

Also, next time you have a roof leak, tell the companies involved that a tree landed on it. They are a little faster about it. I have experience with this. Trust me.

One question...how did you train hubby to tolerate (and dare I say, respect) the fangirling? Was it positive or negative reinforcement? I have one who is very difficult to train...

Whatever-we-are-up-to-ing the birthday do-over - you should certainly have one!

It's also good to see that government bodies have some sense of practicality. Here's hoping your roof doesn't actually collapse.
