Another fanfic gem
"...she soon found herself at the feet of the iron fist of Sheriff Vaisey of Nottingham."

*wipes tears of laughter from eyes*...

Oh, I needed that... but wait, there's more!

"Blowing the candle out, the room plunged into darkness, freezing instantly as her mind flash backed..."

o_O - The room blew the candle out and froze instantly? "flash backed"?

Best part? This fic already has 2 positive comments - bet you can't guess which canon character the OC is making out with...

That's right, she's dragged from the dungeons, he tells her he's going to have his wicked way with her and despite all the hints at past abuse "she felt herself begin to long for him to claim her as his"...

If I didn't laugh I think I'd vomit.

It's not my ship, I admit it, but I appreciate what other people see in it and will happily read and enjoy it when it's done well.

This is not one of those occasions.

In fact I'm sure even some of the most hardcore fans of this ship must read fics like this and just cringe.

LOL! I hadn't even spotted the name thing - well done!

I meant Guy/"OFC-or-Marian" really. I've seen plenty fics where it's Marian who in paragraph one is horrified by Guy's nastiness yet by paragraph two she's throwing herself at him, amazed by how much she wants him just because he's taken his shirt off or something.

If anything those are worse than the Mary Sue ones.

Oh yes, Marian-as-OFC... bad bad bad. I think the only excuse for these "writers" -- if it is one -- is that usually these are teenage girls writing their extreme-male-dominance fantasies. I used to know a girl in another fandom who was into this stuff at one point and grew out of it later.

I like to use that excuse...it must be a teenage girl doing the writing. The alternative is too frightening to consider.

You mean you had a... friend... ;)

Just kidding :D

I'm all for dominant males (look who I like after all!) but there's no excuse for bad writing... Dear God, the self-editing I've had to do on my John/OFC fic... XD

The OFC isn't Jane, is it? ;)
WYG: what?wastingyourgum on April 27th, 2010 01:31 pm (UTC)
This must be some cultural reference that missed me... I've heard of Dick and Jane - same idea? Or are we trying for a Tarzan reference? (Sorry my brain is stuck in First gear today)

(I had to look up who that chap in the red shirt and sun hat was on the hoodland spam post last week - "Oh that's Gilligan!")

ETA: and no, that's not her name!

I meant Jane Scarlett, of course.

Let's just stick with obscure cultural reference. ;)

*facepalm*

Told you I wasn't firing on all cylinders today!

No, this is the other "John gets some" fic... ;)

It's not often that anyone trips you up. I feel so proud. ;)
WYG: Smugwastingyourgum on April 27th, 2010 02:42 pm (UTC)
In my defence: Jane technically isn't an OFC (or is she?)

My story - sticking to it :D
roh_wynroh_wyn on April 27th, 2010 02:45 pm (UTC)
Hmm. I may have to concede, in that case.

It's a fannish gray area, isn't it? Is a character who is never seen, and only mentioned once actually a canon character?

I'd lean on the side of yes, she's a canon character and not an OFC, since the writers bothered to name her, and tell us a bit of her story. She's a bit like Lothiriel (Mrs. Eomer, to the uninitiated) in LotR, I guess.
WYG: Willwastingyourgum on April 27th, 2010 02:57 pm (UTC)
I don't know if you read the excellent The Carpenter and the Wood by tania_sings from the last bigbanghood but she had a character she describes as "canonical male character so obscure he might as well be an OMC".

Jane falls squarely in that category too I think.
roh_wyn: will12roh_wyn on April 27th, 2010 03:00 pm (UTC)
I read it before anyone else, because I was her beta, lol.

That remark was with reference to Seth, IIRC, and yes, Jane does fall into that same category, although in Seth's defense, he's actually seen in an episode. ;)

You lucky thing! That was an awesome fic - made me cry buckets - shame it's probably had very little traffic since it features none of the major characters directly!

LOL, believe me, I wish I was even close to having been a teenage girl 5 or 6 years ago. :D

(Well, I don't, really. But shaving off a few years would be nice.)
