Another fanfic gem
"...she soon found herself at the feet of the iron fist of Sheriff Vaisey of Nottingham."

*wipes tears of laughter from eyes*...

Oh, I needed that... but wait, there's more!

"Blowing the candle out, the room plunged into darkness, freezing instantly as her mind flash backed..."

o_O - The room blew the candle out and froze instantly? "flash backed"?

Best part? This fic already has 2 positive comments - bet you can't guess which canon character the OC is making out with...

That's right, she's dragged from the dungeons, he tells her he's going to have his wicked way with her and despite all the hints at past abuse "she felt herself begin to long for him to claim her as his"...

If I didn't laugh I think I'd vomit.

It's not my ship, I admit it, but I appreciate what other people see in it and will happily read and enjoy it when it's done well.

This is not one of those occasions.

In fact I'm sure even some of the most hardcore fans of this ship must read fics like this and just cringe.

ROFL. That amuses me so much, but it also makes me sad. :( How come nobody reads my stuff? Maybe I need to have more rooms that can blow out candles?

More Guy. It seems to be the only sure-fire way to get more attention...

There seem to be vast swathes of fandom who won't even bother reading something unless he's in it (and it's not entirely antagonistic to him).

IKR?! I've had one chapter featuring Gisborne so far, and I swear the number of hits has increased exponentially.

This makes me sad, because there are other aspects of my story that are much better and far more interesting, but that will go completely ignored.

I try to make myself feel better by remembering that I write for my own enjoyment. But it's still really frustrating. :(

Sorry, not trying to be Debbie Downer or anything.

Preaching to the choir, bb!

Why do you think Guy is all of a sudden featuring more in Denial? We realised nobody was reading it. (Latest chapter - 0 comments - hardly inspiring) Now the chapters without him in seem to just get skipped and it's really disheartening even though we're still having lots of fun writing it (I have about a dozen chapters just waiting to go when the Gang get to Queen Eleanor's ;) )

Fwiw, I've been reading Denial here at LJ, but I've been very, very bad about leaving comments. I should get on that. Fandom = reciprocity, after all.

(Also, I'm totally reading your current Little John fic too. I just wanted to wait until you finish it to comment on all the chapters, because I intend to read the whole thing start to finish first).

I did read the last chapter of Denial. ;) Just haven't gotten around to commenting yet. And yes, I do read the Guy-less chapters too ... I actually liked the LJ/Legrand gambling quite a bit. Not too fond of the Much/Carter slash TBH.

And of course the other thing is that Guy wasn't meant to get nearly so much "screen time" in my latest fic but because I featured him, some of his fans showed up and commented and this leads to me putting him in more.

I believe this is called "pandering to the masses".

If you write him, they will come...

roh_wyn: gisborneroh_wyn on April 27th, 2010 02:52 pm (UTC)
I would totally do that, except my ego gets in the way, and it makes it so I can't change the story.

Heck, that's the reason I've persisted this long with a story that doesn't even feature the other outlaws very much (which is another reason for the lack of comments, I bet. *sigh*)

Of course, if bigbanghood gets off the ground this year, I'm writing an entire story about Gisborne!

Just call me an egotistical hypocrite. ;)

IKR? I posted up five pieces a week or two back, to start to catch my FF.net up to date (I forget about it for awhile, then will remember when I can't update... *shrug*). When I went to check on it, there they all were, on the first page for RHBBC-- and the only other two pieces with no reviews were one with a very uninformative summary, and one in which the summary was so poorly-written, I can't imagine what the fic was like.

Not that I've ever gotten many reviews there, but that was kind of painful...
roh_wynroh_wyn on April 27th, 2010 06:12 pm (UTC)
FFN is a weird and wonderful place, and frankly, I don't think the comments there reflect the actual readership of a story.

I also think FFN operates almost exclusively on (a) recency and (b) reciprocity. The recency effect ensures that only fics that are about S3 characters or events will get a lot of traffic. The reciprocity thing means you only get comments if you leave comments, and I hate that as a concept.

*sigh*

God, I hope not - Denial only has 14 reviews for 62 chapters and none since 54. HPotD was reviewing regularly - we were gutted to lose her!

I hope not! lol

Yeah... I'm admittedly not great about leaving comments. I used to be able to write excellent responses to pieces, but for some reason, it's like I've forgotten how and never know quite what to say.

Aww, I read all your stuff on LJ! I'm just unlikely to review on ffnet when I already read it on LJ.

I get very few reviews as well, but then I attribute this to my 5th grade writing style ;)

Aaaugh sorry! I meant to review your stuff but it's been a very busy week. I promise I'll get there.
