Another fanfic gem
"...she soon found herself at the feet of the iron fist of Sheriff Vaisey of Nottingham."

*wipes tears of laughter from eyes*...

Oh, I needed that... but wait, there's more!

"Blowing the candle out, the room plunged into darkness, freezing instantly as her mind flash backed..."

o_O - The room blew the candle out and froze instantly? "flash backed"?

Best part? This fic already has 2 positive comments - bet you can't guess which canon character the OC is making out with...

That's right, she's dragged from the dungeons, he tells her he's going to have his wicked way with her and despite all the hints at past abuse "she felt herself begin to long for him to claim her as his"...

If I didn't laugh I think I'd vomit.

It's not my ship, I admit it, but I appreciate what other people see in it and will happily read and enjoy it when it's done well.

This is not one of those occasions.

In fact I'm sure even some of the most hardcore fans of this ship must read fics like this and just cringe.

Hey, the Xena fandom is still very much alive and kicking nearly 10 years after the show went off the air. Obviously the activity is not on the same level as before -- a lot of fan sites are no longer updating, and the new fics being written are a fraction of what there used to be during the show's run. But the fandom is definitely still here, and the activity goes up and down in waves. One thing to remember is that these days people often discover shows after they go off the air. I think there's a large and fairly untapped market for the BBC RH outside of the UK -- a lot of people in the US have only found out about it by accident. Also, if my Xena experience is any indication, people who've been in the fandom for the long haul tend to take a breather and then come back -- I've seen people pop back in after disappearing for two or three years when something reignites their love.

Btw, there's a lot of activity on my Yuku board (I worry that I'm siphoning off LiveJournal comms but a lot of people on the board are not primarily on LJ).

So.... no defeatism please! ;)

I'm not saying the fandom will shut down in its entirety...just that a steadily lower amount of activity is to be expected. This is my experience, anyway, from the LotR fandom. That fandom is by no means dead, but it is certainly less active than it was 6-8 years ago.

I think activity happens in fits and starts anyhow, and the fandom feels "dead" only if you look at it globally. Small corners of it still seem quite active. This last episode of rewatch got a fair few comments, for example.

Oh, I'm sure -- "fits and starts" is a good description. Btw, Season 3 of RH is about to start airing in Australia so we may get a burst of activity from there.

I have a feeling the most staunch Aussie fans have already seen it, lol.
