Happy co-incidences

I watch and like 'Merlin' but I'm not in the fandom at all - not joined any communities and don't read fic for it. Yesterday, however, I stumbled across mention of a modern!AU Merlin fic called 'The Student Prince'. What caught my eye is that it's set at St Andrew's University - the alma mater of myself and my husband. I recognised the author's name from the Sherlock fandom and figured what the heck - it would be interesting to see if they actually knew St Andrews or if not, how much research they'd done.

I needn't have worried - they're clearly a graduate (or student) themselves or in close contact with someone who is. It brought back many happy memories of my time there. Not only that but it was an excellent fic in every respect (as long as you don't mind Arthur/Merlin slash). So I heartily recommend it - even if you're not familiar with the town and bizarre traditions of St Andrews it's well worth it.

Anyway, I finished the final chapter and turned on my television in time to see two other St Andrews graduates announcing their engagement... made me laugh.

All the best to William and Kate - I hope the press don't make their lives miserable - and I, for one, firmly believe that matches made in St Andrews are made in heaven ;)
