My fall back position...
I just remembered that this Sunday is when the clocks go back (for us here in the UK anyway - US goes back 1 week later).

This means 2 things:
  1. Winter is fast approaching. It'll get light at 7am and not 8am, which makes the mornings easier (briefly) but it'll also get dark by 5pm and not 6pm. The days really draw in fast at this time of year. The weather has also taken a distinct turn for the colder. This is depressing to say the least.
  2. I get to party for an hour on Sunday!
I should explain point 2 - my birthday is in late March. This year it was on the day the clocks went forward so I had a 23 hour birthday. I'm owed that hour dammit and I'm going to have it!

There shall be cake - oh yes, there shall be cake...

Oh, I am SOOO glad we're gaining an hour; that can't come soon enough. Well, sort of. What this really means is my kids will be waking up an hour early for a couple of weeks.

Happy owed-birthday-hour!!! Enjoy your cake!!

Yeah - it'll be weird for that one week where we're only 4 hours behind the US east coast though...

And the other other thing is that as our clocks go back the ones in the Southern hemisphere go forward so the time difference between me and my bro in Melbourne goes from +9 to +11 (and I will only remember to phone him at times that would be really inconvenient to him!)

I thought you usually were only four hours ahead? Gah, I'm SO bad with time zones, lol.

And DRAT... here I was thinking the time switch would be a good thing for Australia chatting... :-/ I knew it was either beneficial or a pain in the butt, and it looks like I figured on the wrong one. *sigh*

Is there ANYTHING good about winter??? (for us in the northern hemisphere, anyway, lol)

Snow is pretty and big sweaters cover a multitude of sins?

That sounds like one of those Life Truths, lol.

Yep, I dislike how early it gets dark...but on the other hand, when my kids were little I used to hate that it was light outside until after 9pm in the summer! 'I don't care if you don't have school tomorrow, it's bedtime! I need my quiet time, and I have to go to work tomorrow!'

Definitely - you MUST party! and cake! yes, cake is required. I shall expect a full report of fall back activities on Monday! :)

Oh GOD, sunlight that late is SUCH a pain in the butt! This was the first year it was really an issue for us, since before now, my daughter was small enough that she'd go out kind of early no matter what. (Then again, my son's two, and will easily stay up til 10pm no matter what. But he's a whole different critter than his sister, lol.) Kids just do not respect the sacredness of Mommy Time, do they? ;)

Then yeah - you definitely don't want to move to Scotland. The flipside of only 8 hours daylight in December is that June 21st is 4am to 10.30pm...

For about a week or two dusk just kind of merges into dawn and it never gets completely dark.

Still, could be worse - could be Alaska!
