Remember, remember...
Ah, the Fire Brigade's favourite evening of the year...

Bonfire Night - or Guy Fawkes Night though you rarely hear it called that any more and very few people come round asking for a Penny for the Guy - it's all Trick or Treating these days...

It sounds like a war zone outside. The other half used to live near an M.O.D. firing range and thinks anything less than a howitzer is not worthy of his attention. Me and the cat are ooh-ing and aah-ing at everything sparkly outside the windows regardless of ordnance.

And there's a lot of sparkly - we live near the top of a hill overlooking the Clyde Valley so we can see the sites of at least 4or 5 major fireworks displays and all we have to do is move from one bedroom to another.

I love fireworks. I like the big "weeping willow" type ones the best but there's something quite lovely about seeing all the small, individual displays being launched from people's back gardens all over the valley... just random little bursts of colour all over a big blanket of yellow and white street lights. Pretty.

Yes, the huge star-bursts from the official displays are very impressive but I much prefer the thought of a dad lighting a little rocket in a back garden and then rushing over to his wide eyed kids, mouths smeared with tomato ketchup from their sausage sandwiches, noses already turning red from the cold and them all standing there, open mouthed as it shoots up, goes off with a loud bang and sets off the grumpy neighbour's car alarm.

It must be the sentimental romantic in me - or the kid who grew up in a locality where November 5th entertainment was burning down the local derelict tennis pavilion. One or the other... let's go with romantic ;)

It is fun - only downside is that of course lots of other people know the view from up here is good so our road gets totally clogged with parked cars.

And of course we get a repeat performance on Hogmanay as well!

What's more fun than fireworks? Fireworks when you've had a few drinks!

Sounds great! Obviously we don't celebrate it in Greece, but for some reason they had 'V For Vendetta' on TV tonight! Coincidence??
